OUR SCHOOLS

We are pleased to announce on 2nd November 2023 it was agreed the federation between Hague, Stewart Headlam and Swanlea School was voted to move forward and begin from 1st January 2024.

We consulted parents and staff about the benefits of extending our primary federation to become a team of 3 schools hard federating with Swanlea Secondary School from January 2024.  The resounding support means we are now very proud to be ‘Weavers Federation.’  There have already been many excellent benefits to shared leadership working together with governors and staff. It means we are ‘stronger together through partnership’ more able to face the challenges of running schools successfully.  We are the first primary and secondary hard federation in Tower Hamlets.  We are weaving our primary and secondary leadership, governance and transition Y6 to Y7 curriculum together so that we continue to be good and outstanding schools, serving the local community.

Our Governors

The federation governors are focused on three core strategic functions:

Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Executive Leader and Heads of School to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Federation Vision – Stronger Together

Who are we?

Our three schools came together in 2024 to strengthen the educational offer for our children and to increase our capacity to be agile in responding to the changing needs of our community.

Together the Weavers Federation are working towards building an amazing, shared leadership team, providing quality education and support for our children and families. We have strengthened our practice and built our federation teams.

Our schools are stronger together, more resilient and our future is focused on blending the leadership and teaching expertise whilst maximising the use of shared resources. This will allow strategic flexibility to optimise our resources in the most effective way to allow our children to thrive and advance. What are the federation principles whilst we learn to work together?

High AmbitionTo inspire all our children to have a love of learning so that they strive to achieve and be successful in doing so.
Broad HorizonsTo provide a stimulating, progressive curriculum which offers enrichment opportunities for all children respecting their rights, responsibilities and individuality.
Proud TraditionsTo take pride in our unique schools, celebrating each school’s traditions whilst growing in partnership to develop a new shared learning culture.
IntegrityChoosing to do the right things, based on wisdom, research and values, even when it’s hard or no-one is looking so that we have trust between us and the community.

So, what does it mean in practice?

Staff

Building a united team with excellent skills across the pastoral and national curriculum in a Rights Respecting Culture

Buildings

Considering how best to use our buildings across the three schools for maximum benefit to pupils, staff and community.

Resources

Reviewing our use of resources to ensure the best value for the federation.

Finance

Optimising the use of our financial resources to deliver the best possible impact and outcomes for our young people.

Governance

Evaluating our work and constantly striving for excellence through strong strategic challenge and direction.

What do we need to do?

For our staff:

  • Identify opportunities and need for professional development across all staff teams; including opportunities for staff to work across all three schools and outside comfort zones for career development.
  • Train staff to maintain and improve skills, coach and provide feedback for success
  • Be aware of workload and be as flexible for staff as possible to address this
  • Value and support each staff member and team

With our buildings:

  • Maximise facilities to develop curriculum specific rooms
  • Consider how all three schools can manage or share the facilities across all three sites
  • Review how our children can access the best possible outdoor experiences
  • Evaluate whether more flexible use of our buildings could better support inclusion
  • Reflect on the potential for community use of our buildings, including childcare, stay and play, sports and after-hours provision

With our resources:

  • Share specialist inclusion and pastoral resources
  • Maximise resources through cross collaboration planning
  • Plan and share resources across our three schools
  • Consider how to re-use resources to reduce waste, avoid disposable and non-recyclable resources
  • Maintain and build external partnerships with local schools, businesses, charities and trusts which fit with our vision, values and ambitions.

To manage our money:

  • Ensure skilled financial planning
  • Evaluate the impact of our spending
  • Maximise value for money
  • Target financial resources to address needs and reduce waste

To ensure strong governance:

  • Oversee financial performance of the school and ensuring money is well spent
  • Hold the Executive head teacher and school leadership teams to account
  • Ensure respect, safeguarding, equalities, inclusion and access for staff, children and the school community
  • Plan the strategic direction of the Federation
  • Support and challenge the Federation school community to drive school improvement for the benefit of all
